ML for IoT with Texas Instruments and Edge Impulse

Today we are excited to announce a collaboration with Texas Instruments, a leading producer of embedded devices for IoT applications. By combining the rapid development and deployment capabilities of our machine learning platform with Texas Instruments’ ultra-low-power multi-protocol microcontrollers and sensors, we’ve made it easier than ever to create intelligent and efficient IoT products.

Now, with the CC1352P wireless MCU LaunchPad™, the BOOSTXL-SENSORS BoosterPack™, and Edge Impulse, you can create your own machine learning application in less than 10 minutes with no prior programming or machine learning experience. Quickly collect real world sensor data from a variety of sources, train ML models on our cloud-based platform, and deploy those trained models onto the device to recognize complex events in the real world.

The LaunchPad’s CC1352P multi-band wireless MCU supports a wide variety of wireless protocols, including Sub-1 GHz, Bluetooth® Low Energy, Thread, Zigbee®, Wi-SUN, Amazon Sidewalk, and 802.15.4. All share a common, easy-to-use development environment with a single core software development kit and rich tool set. It also features the industry’s lowest power, integrated +20dBm power amplifier (PA) for extended range. The sensors BoosterPack adds a powerful suite of sensors that makes this the perfect platform for rapidly prototyping smart IoT devices for use in home and building automation, smart meters, industrial, medical devices such as fall detection, and personal electronics applications.

How to get started

  1. Get the LAUNCHXL-CC1352P and BOOSTXL-SENSORS development boards
  2. Connect the board to Edge Impulse
  3. Follow the tutorial on recognizing motion events using the accelerometer.
  4. Deploy your model with no programming required!

Next steps

Have existing projects that could benefit from added intelligence? Head to our documentation to learn how you can easily integrate Edge Impulse with our standalone firmware example, and stay tuned as we add support for other BoosterPack boards for the CC1352P LaunchPad in the near future.

Want to learn more about embedded machine learning? First, join us for an exciting webinar session with IoT Central on August 31st, where we will show step-by-step how to create a smart medical device for fall detection with TI + Edge Impulse.  This will showcase the benefits of TI’s long range, Sub-1 GHz connectivity and the power of Edge Impulse in a demo that detects and alerts a fall for applications such as social or personal alarms for elderly care. Then, register for the Edge Impulse Imagine event on September 29th - October 1st, where all the industry leaders in embedded ML will share their knowledge and lead hands on tutorials.
